The Hong Kong government has promoted green finance at the policy level and has one of the largest green bond government programmes in the world. Private sector green bond issuance in Hong Kong is also gathering pace. As evidence of the momentum, total green bonds from Hong Kong issuers in 2018 was USD2.3 billion - that is 4.6 times the volume of 2017. This briefing report, detailing the nature of the growth in Hong Kong's green bond market, was launched by the Climate Bonds Initiative on 25 February 2019 at an event hosted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
