The data revolution is energy intense; digitisation will require twice as much electricity by 2030. This is a problem for climate change if it is not delivered using clean power. Rapid adoption of electric vehicles, as well as take off in virtual reality, autonomous vehicles and blockchain will also add to demand and create strain on existing power infrastructure.

In this report, HSBC Global Research explain the drivers of the data revolution and present scenarios of digitalization growth to assess the implications for future power demand. The report also provides a deep dive into the charging needs for EVs; a key climate solution for transport. Clean power is a key enabler for a zero carbon data revolution.
