The risks relating to climate change include those associated with reducing emissions to address the problem – transition risk – and those related to the effects of warmer temperatures – physical risk. But countries are at different starting points, both in terms of ambition and ability to deliver the low-carbon transition and build resilience to the potential physical disruption associated with a warming planet. This report by HSBC Global Research assesses the political economy – the policy, government and institutions, economic diversity and energy resources – of 67 countries across developed and emerging markets to identify the positioning of countries as the world progresses with a low-carbon transition. The 67 countries cover 80 per cent of the world's population and 94 per cent of GDP.
