This report by the Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) details pathways to decarbonise the cement industry by mid-century. Cement currently emits around 7 per cent of total global emissions, being the largest industrial contributor to GHGs after steel. According to the ETC report, some routes for the decarbonisation of this sector will be carbon capture, low carbon fuels like gas or biomass, and new concrete chemistries. This report complements the ETC study 'Mission possible: Reaching net-zero carbon emissions from harder-to-abate sectors by mid-century' from November 2018.
